I have been looking for a great place to have authentic PHO for over 18 months on my business travel here to Ft Wayne, finally found the place. The atmosphere is friendly and quiet, the server was very polite and friendly, and the PHO was absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!!! No other place I have eaten at in Fort Wayne for good PhO can compare (considering the only other place that could have came close shut down (Qui's) replaced by a cheap Mexican joint. I will highly recommend Saigon especially if you are from the Dallas TX area this place is a must try (and return) The broth was full of flavor, and the steak was rocking, slightly raw (as it should be) when delivered to the table and we must not forget all the fresh veggies, bean sprouts, cilantro, jalapeño, lime and mint. YUM! Keep it up Saigon you Rock!!!

Well we finally got a RARE front door parking...we went here about a week ago after we went to the Asian Market across the street....My Husband had the Seafood Pho and I had the Beef Pho...Now most seafood smells a bit, but His did not smell fishy....I tasted it..The squid? was VERY chewy, I had to sneak that little bugger in my napkin and dispose of it....It did not taste fishy though I will give them that..His fish tasted fresh...My beef was a bit chewy, and there was quite a bit in it ..It was very tasty..I would go and have it again.... Now the egg rolls ,,,OH YEAH !! Very good...The crab rangoon was tasty....We also took home for a snack later some Beef LoMein and it was very good.... They were busy and the Lady who waited on us was very nice...Our food did not take very long..They had tons of casrry out..the phone rang constantly....Yeah it ain't pretty, but was clean when we went....We go for good food , If the service was that bad we woould have left..But it was pretty prompt for having 6 tables, carry out and 1 person in the front of the house..... Try them out if you can find parking.....Love some good Asian cuisine....Hard to find in Fort Wayne....If you want carry out egg rolls you do have to wait awhile they are made fresh......Have patience...They are worth it....

They do a very good job here. The prices are great. The pork chop with rice was flavorful and fresh, the phö was authentic and hot. No frills, except maybe the seafood, stick with turf when in the midwest, people. The place is family owned and run, the service reflects this. Don't expect more than what the one $ suggests. Overall my recommendation.

Oookkkaayyy...I'm going to have to burst some bubbles out there. After reading the other reviews and hearing my family rave I figured I just had to check this place out. I mean, who doesn't love a good bowl of pho, right? On Yelp, the only food really reviewed was the Pho and their Eggrolls, so that's exactly what I ordered. Food: Upon first sight of the pho (beef), I knew it wasn't made right. I'm familiar with how this soup is made and how to tell if its a good one or not. I've tasted it before and know what a perfect version should taste like. I say this one was off because the broth was muddy and clouded. This is what happens when the soup bones either haven't been cleaned or when the broth hasn't been strained enough times. Considering I could see meat scum floating in my broth, I'd say both of the aforementioned were true. Nonetheless, I threw caution to the wind and tasted a spoonful. The flavor and mouth-feel were off putting. The soup wasn't even served piping hot (as it should it be to cook the rare beef that is served atop it). But to the reviewer that talked about it not having too much cinnamon in it--they were right. All in all, I sent--or tried to send the soup back. Sister's beef lo mein was average. Now the eggrolls, thats a whole otha ballgame!! They didn't look the best, but they were SUPER FANTASTIC! They were freshly fried and hot. The wrapper was thin and crispy. And the filling was just what I was looking for. Savory and delicious. Initially, I thought I'd just order one so I could have a taste. [My sister, on the other hand, ordered three and inhaled them without taking a breath in between.] After the issue with my pho, I just had to order another one. Delish! Service: From the other reviews, I knew not to expect too much. But I didn't know it would be this bad. Drink orders completely forgotten. Guests (i.e. myself) having to make trips to the counter for accoutrements to my tea. Server and cooks eating what appeared to be their lunches at the counter--rather than cooking and serving. And the icing on the cake, when I advised my waitress I was unhappy with my pho, she told me she had the nerve to tell me that she'd tasted it earlier and it tasted fine to her. I could not believe that was her response! When I went on to tell her this was not my first pho rodeo and the issues with the broth, she relented and said she'd check with the owner. Establishment: 40 year old dirty carpet. "Antique" wallpaper. Plywood on the walls as well. Burgundy vinyl covered banquet chairs. A hole in the wall would be a proper description. Would I return? Yea, if I was on that side of town, happened to have cash, be in the mood for bad service and having a hankering for great eggrolls.

Great little hole in the wall. Don't let the exterior scare you away. Seriously. The egg rolls are fantastic!! The pho is also really tasty.

Food was very good. The egg rolls are homemade and good. The broth was good and the portions are large for $7-$8. Service was a little scattered but this is a small restaurant and there were several other groups of people in there. I will be back for sure.

How many times can I write fantastic pho here before it gets old? . Just a wonderful, well developed bowl of pure awesomeness. The Vietnamese coffee could fit into any of my days. Between the coffee and pho, my taste buds couldn't be happier. I've sampled some friends menu items and they are also great. Cash only place, so be prepared, and then enjoy yourself to the fullest.

  • Yamile L.

Definitely overrated. Poor service, even when it's slow. They don't offer TOFU and its cash only... Rather than conveniently having an ATM, they tell you to go several blocks down the road to get cash. Truly the most annoying experience I've had at a PHo place.

Always consistent quality food. Everything else can vary depending on the day. Great little Vietnamese hidden gem in downtown Fort Wayne.

Today we stopped and I had the kung po pork. So good and spicy ...Just like a like it. The egg rolls are good. This place is like a neighborhood restaurant in Chicago. Local and lots of regulars. The atmosphere isn't fancy but you go to eat the food, not the atmosphere. If you go once...you'll go again!

Love love the homemade eggrolls ! You will find no better:) parking is not the greatest but I don't mind walking!! Prices are great and has a homey atmosphere, not all the fancy inside but has a nice feeling. Remember to have cash!!! No credit cards accepted!!!

So I may sometimes come here 3 times a week. It's great if you're sick, feeling well, hungover, hungry, cold, happy, or any emotion. The egg rolls are the best in the county by far. People get them by the dozen for take away. The pho is yummers! Everyone I've taken here can't wait to come back!

This place is a hidden jewel in Fort Wayne. It's family run and the owners and staff are so nice. The food is great, there's a mix of traditional Chinese and Vietnamese food. Our favorite dish is Pho Tai (beef and rice noodles in broth) and we always get a couple of their amazing egg rolls! You can make a meal just out of those alone. If you're downtown, I recommend stopping in for lunch or dinner (they close early so don't get there late).

I have been patronizing this restaurant for about 18 years. That should say enough but I will continue. First off, Ashley, the young woman that keeps everyone in line, is a gem. She does have her bad moments, i.e. rude customers, incorrect orders from the kitchen, but on the whole she does keep this establishment running like clock work, and when she is off, she is sorely missed. Next, the Pho severed here is the best in the city, and yes, I have tried many in various places around Fort Wayne. The Pho ga (chicken noodle soup) is the finest pick-me-up for a cold ever created. Or just a fine meal when you need a little comforting. The Pho tai nam (beef noodle soup) is made correctly here, in that, it seems to have very little, to no cinnamon in it. Again I have had many Pho tai and the under laying and very off putting flavor is to much cinnamon. Great in desserts, not in my soup. I don't think this review is going to have much impact on this place as it is one of Fort Waynes best kept, non-secret jewels and seems to be constantly busy.

This. Place. Is. Awesome. I honestly don't know why you're sitting there reading this when you should honestly be on your way to the Saigon Restaurant to order a Summer Roll with Shrimp and Pork and a Vietnamese Coffee. The Roll was super fresh and honestly the best one that I've ever had - outside of Seattle. Seriously. No. I'm being totally serious here. I loved the fresh herbs, the soft roll and the umami from the dipping sauce - which was a unique mix of hoisin and peanut sauce - ultimately making the BEST peanut dipping sauce ever. The coffee is authentic and really strong - just make sure you ask how to make it the first time! The coffee here is SO much better than the Vietnamese Iced Coffee at the Dash In, and cheaper to boot. So go already - and thank me later.

I am new to the area so I found this place on yelp. I've had Pho all over the US and Canada. The Pho here is as good as any I've had. Food and service was great. Fast, fresh and reasonably priced.

My friend and I are absolutely in love with this place, our good friend used to frequent this restaurant and loved it, we finally tried it after he passed. Needless to say we visit frequently and understand what he loved about it, everything. The service is different, we like it... Sometimes even get a laugh out of it. The atmosphere is unique and like eating in a old diner in Chicago (the people you are eating with, eat their often) The food is amazing. I am addicted to there Crab Rangoon and duck sauce. Plenty to love, this place is special to the regulars, and is busy daily for a reason.

Community oriented busy restaurant serving delicious noodle bowls and pho. The Vietnamese Iced Coffee is a must to balance spicy dishes! I noticed someone said they do not serve alcohol, but I believe they do have a beer/wine license. The menu also includes American diner breakfast offerings which makes it easy for everyone to find something they like. Have been going there for several years, usually on Saturday or Sundays, and always a warm welcome from staff even when crazy busy, and the regulars are very nice, too. Good value... very affordable and take out available. Bring cash or be prepared to sprint to the nearest ATM. I've seen it happen a few times. Hee.

This is a cheap and tasty place for Vietnamese food. The bun, pho and goi cuon dishes taste pretty standard. Not a big fan as the more Chinese items on the menu, including fried rice, lemongrass chicken over rice, but that's just me. I would be inclined to stick to the traditional Vietnamese dishes. Decor is diner-style.

Best pho I have ever had, even though it is only the second place I have had pho, it was very good. The decore reminds me of a '50's dinner taken over by a Vietnamese family (you decide if that is good or bad). Bring cash, they don't accept credit cards.

A++ - Amazing and affordable. I haven't had a bad thing on the menu - vegetable noodle soup, pho and spring rolls - and my picky husband loves that it offers more approachable dishes like fried rice. The prices are great and the service is good. (I think we get extra attention because the servers love our son!) My only complaint is the cash only policy. We would go more often if it wasn't for having to hit the ATM.

The Saigon restaurant is one of my favorite Vietnamese spots around town. From the outside, this seemingly appears to be a hole in the wall. But the interior is an amazing contrast. Inexpensive lounge music plays while you dine in this small intimate space. The menu here is great. Many of the standard dishes that you will find elsewhere, but with enough of a flair to separate itself. The Saigon shows how a little extra effort on presentation can go a long way. Admittedly, I do tend to stay within my comfort zone of dishes here. The vermicelli is very nice. Not too warm or cool. The addition of what tasted like mint was refreshing. It has the right consistency, though I wished there was more of a noodle serving. The rice dishes are great here too as the grilled meats are prepared well. The space is a bit smallish, so be prepared for a wait if the place is full. Though it seems like they have a back room for seating. At least it seems like it. If you are looking for solid Vietnamese fare with a little flair, The Saigon is your spot. * I notice the reviewer JayChan H. He states in his review that, "It's a rainy day in Fort Wayne". When you look at the photos he took. The one of the outdoor sign, also the interior. Looking out from the counter. The weather does not appear to be like that. ** Myself, I have often wanted to stat a review with. "It was a dark and stormy night".

Pho-king awesome! It's a rainy day in Fort Wayne and I'm craving a big bowl of soup. I'm really craving a bowl of pho like I can get back home in la-la ville and I'm pretty sure there aren't any Vietnamese this deep into the midwest......WRONG! Thanks to a quick Yelp search I found Saigon Restaurant. It's a small shop with counter service and a few tables. It's a Saturday afternoon and the place is packed. Immediately I was greeted by "Tammy" from the Anjelah Johnson, Crystal Gel video. " There no table, we busy, you wait ten or fifteen minute for next table." A bit abrupt and almost rude but that's OK I'm jonesing too much to care. I grabbed a spot at the counter and waited about twenty before I could get anyone to wait on me. It's a busy place and the staff seems flustered every time you ask for something. Maybe it was an off day... The pho broth is just as it should be and the Vietnamese coffee is strong and delicious, a perfect warm up on a cold day. The only thing I found odd is having to ask for basil. It took a couple of attempts but I finally got a few sprigs, enough to share with the couple sitting next to me. I was surprised to hear they have never tried basil in their pho, in fact I noticed they didn't use any of the add-ins that normally come with the soup. You have to add the cilantro, peppers, bean sprouts, basil and lime to get the full spectrum of flavor! Normally I'd kick off a couple of stars for slow or poor service but I give the crew here a pass because they really seem under staffed for such a busy place. Note to owner: Give Tran more to do, the poor guy looks lost. Lastly good citizens of Ft Wayne, next time you visit Saigon on Calhoun order your bowl of Pho and pronounce it correctly. Here's a hint, use the sound Fuhhh like in 'fudge' and add a question mark. "Fuhhh?" Your waitress will be impressed and (maybe) bring you some basil before you have to ask.

Absolutely fantastic authentic Vietnamese cuisine in unpretentious location. Great pho, spring rolls, noodles, pork chop and coffee. Very reasonable prices and great friendly service. A real find. They also have Chinese/American fare so if you want authentic Vietnamese, ask the friendly staff for suggestions. I can't wait to go back.

Let's not put on airs. This place used to be a diner, and while the menu has changed, the atmosphere hasn't. There's an old-school counter, and the service warms up only with frequent visits. Everyone here is a regular, and there's a reason. Delicious Pho, Bun, Vietnamese Coffee, and I'm sure everything else too, all cheap. If you don't like this place, it's your fault.

Downtown Fort Wayne is undergoing revitalization with the opening of a new ball park and hotel. Saigon is just a short walk down Calhoun St. from the ballpark, and is a great little hidden gem. It is a family operation. The secret to great pho is the broth. Restaurants that take shortcuts in broth rarely stay around for long. The beef broth is simmered for hours and then seasoned with cinnamon, anise, and other spices for a subtly balanced flavor. Then the rice noodles are added at the last minute. They are chewy and light, and allow flavors like the broth, Hoisin sauce, Siraga sauce, Thai basil, lime, and bean sprouts to spring forth. Of course Saigon is not the kind of pho restaurant one would find in LA, but it is good. The fresh spring rolls are very good (with peanut sauce) and the Vietnamese iced coffee is the best in town---it puts Starbucks to shame, really. $2.50 of caffein heaven. We have tried the duck noodle soup, which is very good too.

Has a larger city diner feel. Many of the items on the menu are very traditional Chinese/American in flavor, albeit well done. However, the soups are out of this world, and so many to chose from. Huge bowls with amazing garnishes. The price is just right. Service may be a tad slow if they are busy and slow on help. Try the young coconut juice. Fantastic. My friends and I have been going back as often as we could once we found this place. If not used to it, avoid the fish sauce.

Best Vietnamese food in town. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired but the food is worth it. Order noodle bowl 5.
